Cookies in Pamplona

Ernest Hemingway was fascinated by bulls, men and death in Pamplona.
If he had been more inclined towards cookies,

There are cookie shops on every street.
And yet the Spaniards are so slim!
Who are eating the cookies?
The pilgrims?
